How To: Choose 3D Printing Filament

Starter Choices

  • PLA: easiest default for beginner prints, prototypes, and low-heat indoor use.
  • PETG: tougher and more heat resistant than PLA, but needs cleaner setup.
  • TPU: flexible and slower; ask before using.

Ask First

  • Carbon-fiber, glass-fiber, glow, wood, metal, or other filled filaments.
  • ABS, ASA, nylon, PC, or odor-heavy/high-temperature materials.
  • Unknown old filament or unlabeled spools.
